I Pledge Allegiance

I pledge allegiance to the empty tomb
Of the One Who entered dead and exited alive,
And to the incomprehensible Love for which it stands;
One Divine sacrifice, forgiving all mankind,
With eternal salvation extended to all.

My God, My God

“My God, My God, O why hast Thou
Forsaken Me?” we heard Him cry;
Not one of us could fathom how
God turned His back, and let Him die.

I couldn’t move; so I reproached
Myself for trusting such a fool.
Had every hearer failed to broach
The lunacy that He could rule

Our people? This man was no king;
In poverty, though skilled in trade,
He lived off others’ offering
While leading crowds in vast parades

Of desperate, dirty, damaged lives,
Whose confidence He swayed with words—
As one who easily contrives
Whatever draws the hopeless herds.

Then from the cross He met my eyes,
And held them ‘til my knees gave way.
From what, I could not recognize—
Nothing I knew, nor know today.

Then He was dead, and I cried now:
My God, my God, O why hast Thou

Forgiven me?

Becoming One

Uniquely Traditional: Kilts, Clans, and Couples

They wed with kilted fathers, friends, and groom.
A piper plays to greet, in Scots costume,
The treasury of souls who interlace
With theirs; a miracle of time and place.
Both bride and groom at peace, eager to share
The love and miracles that bring them there.
A joyous day to celebrate replete;
To pipes and drums the gallant ushers seat
The guests; while bride and father wait to hear
Their cue to enter; eyes with diamond tears.
Then guests arise as father, daughter stride;
In radiant whiteness, gown enhances bride—
Her tailor will she greet with gleaming smile,
For ‘tis his gownèd bride come down the aisle.
With tearful joy the Daddy, child stand;
As with a kiss, she must release his hand.
He turns to face the one he will call “Son,”
And smiling, nods, to bless them now as one.
